Can i omit an employer from my resume
In constructing a resume, you may worry about facing age discrimination, showing a history of job hopping or explaining a prior position that you left under less than ideal circumstances. In many cases, it's completely acceptable to omit certain jobs from your resume. However, there are cases in which leaving jobs off your resume can present serious problems. Unlike a job application, which often represents your complete job history, a resume is a document designed to represent your qualifications to your best advantage. It's not unusual to have different versions of a resume that emphasize different aspects of your credentials and skills. In some cases, you may leave off certain jobs altogether if they are not relevant to a particular position you are seeking.

To Tell the Truth: Resume Rules
One of my readers I'll call her Mary asked if it was fair for a potential employer to want to contact her current boss while she is secretly looking for a new job. She was understandably upset that they would call to speak with him, without telling her whether or not she's a finalist. This is especially important if a boss will hold it against you when they find out — and you don't get the job. A slightly different angle on this question is, if you have the choice, should you risk having your current employer called at all if they don't even know you're looking. Mary raised some good questions. Even more relevant since she did NOT get the job, and still has to work for her current boss. Here's how I responded:.

This is the age when you should remove your graduation year from your resume
As the job market has become more competitive, a quality resume is more important than ever. Unfortunately, that may inspire some job candidates to be less than honest about their past. In some instances, job seekers may omit crucial details about prior criminal history. Others may avoid mentioning some previous jobs and employment background—especially if they left on poor terms. Some may lie about why they left those jobs.
You may need to include it in a job application , or it may show up in a background check. In fact, if you have a lot of work experience, describing just the last 10 to 15 years is recommended. Including jobs you held earlier than this, even if they are relevant to your career search, may result in your being pegged as an older worker by companies prone to ageism in their hiring practices. Don't confuse your resume with an employment application. A resume is a document you create.
